Macarthur Astronomical Society Inc.
patron: Professor Bryan Gaensler (University of Sydney)
Welcome! We are a group of amateur astronomers of varying levels of experience, based in South Western Sydney, NSW, Australia. We hold dark sky observing sessions for members, invite distinguished professional astronomers to address our monthly meetings at the University of Western Sydney and hold public viewing and public lectures. We also participate in community events and provide speakers on astronomy for community organisations.
Beginners are encouraged to become involved. Observing equipment is not essential to joining, so long as you have an interest in astronomy. Assistance is given in purchasing and using a telescope. Visit our 'Join MAS' page for benefits of membership. Visit our 'Whats On' page for details of our activities.

The Forest - Free Offer
The committee has decided to install an exiting new programme to benefit everyone who is a financial member of M.A.S. Starting this year, M.A.S. will shout each member a free weekend at The Forest. Bring your 2013-14 membership card with you when you come to a New Moon Weekend, and it will be punched, signifying that you've taken your free weekend. Bring your equipment and observe or photograph our Forest sky which really has to be seen to be believed on a clear night. Normal cost is $15 per night or $30 per weekend per member.
Official M.A.S. stickers are in...
Our new MAS club stickers are in! We have both white on clear and black on clear (shown). Size is 100mm x 50mm. These are great in that it doesn't matter what colour background you're placing them on - they look fantastic. Weather proof, so good for the car too. Price to members is 5 for $2.00. We will be distributing these to new members in our welcome packs from now as well. Stewart will have these for purchase at the next meeting on Monday the 20th May.
The Macarthur Astronomy Forum is held on the third monday of each month (except December) at UWS Campbelltown. Interested members of the public are invited to attend admission free (a gold coin in our donation box would be appreciated). Details of the next event are posted on our "What's On" page. A full list of speakers is posted on our "Guest Speakers" page.
We host public observing nights during the year. Details of the next event will be posted on our "What's On" page.
Ask An Astronomer
There is now a "Facebook" menu on this site. It displays the list of conversations currently taking place on our Facebook Wall. Click on "goto group" to actually go there and enter your own comments. (Moderated)
Non-members who have an account on Facebook and would like to ask astronomical questions of MAS members or just leave a comment, please visit the Facebook 'Macarthur Astronomical Society' Group. Click on the logo. Purchased an astronomical telescope but unsure of how to use it? We can assist in learning how to use it. Just e-mail MAS at email@example.com giving details.
Sponsors & Advertisers
The Society will lease advertising space on this website (similar to below) for a very reasonable price. We are also seeking sponsorship for the Macarthur Astronomy Forum, the Society's flagship monthly meeting which attracts professional astronomers from around the world. Please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
